PE and Sports
Schools are allocated a sum of money, called the Primary PE and Sport Funding to support all children and improve the quantity, quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. The allocation is calculated according to the intake of the school, and the school must decide how best to use the money to improve the breadth and quality of PE and sport provision, including increased participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.
Teaching and learning physical education (PE) is is based on the Lancashire County Council PE scheme of work which is in turn taken from the National Curriculum. In Key Stage 2 classes, one of the PE lessons each week is delivered by a PE coach from the Chorley Schools Sports Partnership (CSSP).
There are many opportunities during the course of the school year for children across the school to take part in competitions that are available through our membership of the CSSP.
Please see the reports below for further information.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. The criteria listed in the document below will help all institutions assess themselves across bronze, silver and gold levels of the award and, for those schools that can demonstrate a sustained high level of delivery, the Platinum award.
Chorley, St Mary's was awarded the Platinum award for 2019/2020, Gold in 2021/2022 and again in 2022/2023. Thank you to Mr Hodge for his excellent leadership of PE and sport

WOW (walk-once-a-week)
During the Spring and Summer months, we encourage children to exercise even more by walking to school. We then collect pupils travel to school data using the WOW (Walk-Once-a-Week) Scheme. Click here to find out more and use the daily activity chart below to record your child's progress.
